Gold Challenge
The Daivyan Children Cancer Foundation 2016 Gold Challenge/Love of A Child Concert took place at the University of Lagos Sports Centre Main Bowl. The event, which is the maiden edition, saw in attendance pupils from different primary and secondary schools in Lagos. The idea behind the event, according to the Coordinator, Mrs. Matilda Obiajunwa and mother of little Daivyan, a cancer survivor, is part of the Foundation’s efforts to create awareness on the reality of childhood cancer Obiajunwa explained the event was also an attempt to raise funds for the treatment of children battling cancer and to encourage them to face the battle against cancer like sportsmen who go into a game with the intention of winning and, as such, they must be positive in the fight because their positivity is vital to the treatment process.
Several sporting activities took place at the occasion. The activities include relay race, shuttle relay race, sack race, lime and spoon, and 100metres race with schools in attendance competing to win medals. Several corporate bodies like the Arena Market, Nexus Home Appliances, Indomie, UAC Foods, Lasena Waters and MTN supported the event with gift and promo items, while some others placed adverts in the event brochure. On hand to give the event a boost were celebrity comedians like Whale Mouth, Ajebo, Pencil and musicians like Byno, Tshy, Pastor Goody Goody, among others. Omowunmi Dada, one of the Foundation’s ambassadors, was also on ground to support the cause. Cheques of token amounts were presented to four families whose children are battling cancer while a family which lost a child to leukemia was also given a token by the Foundation. A Nexus table top fridge prize went to the most supportive school to the cause of the Foundation, the University of Lagos Women Society Nursery and Primary School, while the most supportive principal prize was given to the principal of Liham Schools Nursery and Primary Schools. Microwave ovens were given to individuals, volunteers and the Foundation’s Ambassadors who displayed exceptional support for the Foundation’s targets.
